S'more Bars

Okay, so I tried this recipe quite some time ago before I decided to blog my pin-attempts but it's a good first post.
The blog claimed these were mess free and tasted "better" than s'mores.

Here's the original recipe:

1/2 cup butter, room temperature
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/3 cups all purpose flour
3/4 cup graham cracker crumbs
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
2 king-sized milk chocolate bars (e.g. Hershey’s)
1 1/2 cups marshmallow creme/fluff (not melted marshmallows)
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light. Beat in egg and vanilla. In a small bowl, whisk together flour, graham cracker crumbs, baking powder and salt. Add to butter mixture and mix at a low speed until combined.
Divide dough in half and press half of dough into an even layer on the bottom of the prepared pan. Place chocolate bars over dough. 2 king-sized Hershey’s bars should fit perfectly side by side, but break the chocolate (if necessary) to get it to fit in a single layer no more than 1/4 inch thick. Spread chocolate with marshmallow creme or fluff. Place remaining dough in a single layer on top of the fluff (most easily achieved by flattening the dough into small shingles and laying them together).
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until lightly browned. Cool completely before cutting into bars.

Finished product!! A layer of marshmallow fluff then the second half of the dough

Overall, this recipe was fine, pretty good even but...

First, it was not NEARLY as good as smores, and second still relatively messy. I did not let it cool completely which probably added to the mess factor but when I ate a second piece (sure, it was good enough for a second piece) and it was completely cool, it was not nearly as good as the slightly warm, first slice I ate.

My biggest problem with the recipe was the crust- it was nothing like a graham cracker, even though it has graham cracker crumbs in it. It is much more like a cookie crust.

For my first Pinterest attempt, I would say it was relatively successful but the recipe wasn't as good as advertised.

3 out of 5 stars

Introduction

I love Pinterest. I mean, I REALLY love Pinterest. And I love to cook and sew. At 566 pins on my food board alone, I decided I need to spend less time looking for more pins and more time actually trying out the things I have pinned. As much as I love baking and sweet food, I really prefer cooking meals which is harder since I'm a senior in high school and I still live at home. However, it's worth a shot. And my boyfriend probably won't complain too much ;)

A sewing project will probably be thrown in on occassion as well but I plan on blogging about my recipes, successes and failures and giving you an honest opinion of the recipes that have tempted me with their pretty pictures and flashy captions. I'll try to post pictures and the original recipe so you can try them out for yourself (especially the successful ones).

Happy pinning! :)
